The snowstorm that swept through our city left behind more than just picturesque drifts—it left behind impassable streets, stranded residents, and a growing sense of frustration.
Neighborhoods have been waiting for plows that never arrive, watching as the snow hardens into icy barricades. Parents are struggling to get kids to school, workers can’t reach their jobs, and emergency vehicles face dangerous delays.
Yet while the city remains frozen in place, our mayor has taken to social media—not to address the crisis, but to post cheerful vignettes of sledding and winter fun. It’s a tone-deaf performance that feels more like a vacation reel than leadership in action.
Why don't the citizens get this?
•Transparent communication about delays and plans. (because there isnt any) Our council president had better communication than our punk rock mayor.
•A clear timeline for when streets will be cleared. Thats simple, NEVER or by July 4th.
•A mayor who acknowledges the hardship, not one who distracts from it with sledding videos. Especially, when people are shoveling their car out, then hoping when they get back the spot is still there. Wonder if the Mayor had this problem at his residence or did he get a 1st class plowing.
Look at these
And my favorite: I knew those things were good for something else.
This snowstorm has tested the city’s resilience and its leadership. They failed us once again, but we get to pay 3.96% more for services.
Center City
West End
Southside- actual houses buried lmao
Even the damn snow emergency roads arent plowed near the curb. No one can park front of their residence until June.
I just dont understand how one can brag about how well the streets are cleared and how good the plow drivers and the police did clearing the streets when 3 days after the storm ASD puts this out.
The mayor once again is running around the city talking about how much is being done but has missed the mark on execution.
Should we be surprised any less by the actions Mayor Matt Kardashian-Tuerk?

He's a joke. If we get another storm this weekend Allentown will be closed. But maybe the Mayor can go cross country skiing down Hamilton Street. Never mind that will be clear of snow. Especially under the arch. What a shit hole of a city. I thought I saw Napoli, Pungo and Binder ice skating Monday ay Cedar Beach.
Tuerk is a joke. His sledding and riding along in plows while filming himself further underscores how small of man he truly is in life. His incessant attempts to get people to pay attention to him shows how much he is insecure and narcissistic
ABE tureky slidin in for a biden just like a walking dick with earZ in the first meme Lunch for all that r rectal and all thingZ cisternious!)$?
But he's so cooool. I mean we have a Latino punk rock mayor. Who starves for attention. It would be one thing if people filmed him and posted. But he has to do it himself. Pathetic. Like doing an True E! Hollywood story on yourself with a camera crew he hired to follow him around.
Funny hes sledding while the news happened to be there. All the hills in county and hes where the news goes. Dude follows the news van around
His PW Director should be fired !! This city is mess and he’s doing video telling people where to put the snow from there walkways. SMH !!! Snow emergency Route are mess !!!
People can’t get through main streets like 15 th , there is BIG problem with the leadership in this city !!!
The Mayor is really smart...thanks to his innovative thinking we can put our yard wastes out every other week throughout the winter months. Our yards might be buried below a foot of snow, but thanks to his great ideas we can still place a paper yard waste bag at the curbside.
Every picture they post on social media is from around Youells, on Walnut. Who lives there? Of course that area is completely clear, meanwhile people can't get out of their garages in alleys. Where do they want people to put the snow? In between cars where there already isn't enough room for people to park? In the 2 feet between the sidewalk and the curb? Lets use some critical thinking here people.
I agree with 8:38. Tuerk is obsessed with himself and being on camera.
Tuerk should have been more innovative and used all the snow to build an arch. At least we'd only have to look at the ugly thing until the snow melted.
Package snow as your yard waste.
Please don’t give him any ideas. There will be a snow Tuerk statue on Hamilton. Probably higher than any American flag in the city and definitely higher than the Veterans Memorial. An homage to himself and may including his ice queen Executive Assistant.
Is it true that the mayor is asking all residents to drop off their snow in his front yard? I called City Hall to confirm but no one answered in the mayor’s office. At least the mayor’s office is consistent rain, snow, or shine.
He had the snow removed from his property immediately. Resident should just drop it off at his house and his kiss ass DPW will be over there himself with a front end loader and bucket truck faster than Tuerk posts a video of himself.
Yeah. No one from the mayor’s office ever “shows up”. The mayor and his team don’t even follow his newest buzz phrase.
Mayor-when will you and your staff show up and answer our questions and concerns? Put down the camera and vanity light and do something.
What the City needs is an email and phone ticket tracker. Lets see metrics on how many emails and calls go unanswered and get some accountability!
It was wonderful that they opened up the parking decks... 9 HOURS AFTER the snow emergency was called. They should have opened them BEFORE OR AT the time the emergency was called... BUT they delayed that to obviously accommodate a game at the PPL center... we see who rates in this town, and folks, it's NOT the taxpayer or residents!!! SO, they made everyone move on the emergency routes... GREAT!!!... but then FAIL to plow to the CURB??? Note... a car width from the curb doesn't cut it!!! Next time forget that shit and we can dig ourselves out and STILL HAVE A USABLE SPACE!!!!! Once again, thanks for nothing, Allentown!!!
Surely the Mayor can do a selfie video promoting the generation of yard wastes in January with a foot of snow and single degree temps.
I just got off the phone with the city and was told the mayor and his assistant are in DC at a conference. Way to go mayor.
Anonymous 8:01: You're right about one thing; the Mayor is smart. He just cut your yard waste level of service in half and you're paying a much higher rate!
He's likely at the US Conference of Mayors. It is a dues based organization and you pay based on how many residents you have. Looks like Allentown would fall into the $10-11,500K ish rate on their scale.
ItZ just another grifter like and similar to itZ mentor that helped in the palumpashitskiZ indictment, grifterZ Inc ie jenningZ Inc under one umbrella!)$?
Once upon a time, the streets to be plowed were posted on the web or you could call the "hotline"... now neither is of any use, or I'm missing something. Is this information available and where???
The revamped Allentown web sites are just time wasters as very little to nothing of substance can be found there...
https://www.allentownpa.gov/en-us/Government/Departments/Public-Works/Streets/Snow-Operations
The Snow Operations Guide is as much of joke as the people named within. What does this document even communicate to residents about snow operations? I see assignment of duties for employees but no actual explanation of duties or useful information for residents to respond to snowstorm…like who to call if a plow damages my car like happened Monday? Who do I call if our street hasn’t been plowed? I see priority routes that weren't followed during this latest snowstorm. I see a requirement for no parking signs to be posted by Streets Dept - didn’t happen.
Who is the city emergency management coordinator? No notices sent or announcements from that department that I saw.
The city of Allentown leadership failed us this storm and they continue the trend. The Mayor isn’t even here during this mess? He should be fired! 3.96% increase for his comrades to get raises and you deny the citizens basic services required with tax dollars?
You’re a joke and a disgrace.
We keep paying for an absent mayor to buy friends and screen time with our taxpayer dollars.
Anon 2:16- That link is to useless information of no substance for the citizens. Thanks anyway...
US Conference of Mayors is where Tuerk goes to act like a big shot at the taxpayers expense. He comes up with all his good ideas at these conferences.
Good ideas? He should demand a refund. There hasn’t been a single good idea in 4 years.
UPDATE: The snow is still plowed a car's width AWAY from the curb on our "snow emergency" route and the snow ended days ago... we need heads to roll in this piss poorly run city AND a MASSIVE tax DECREASE!!!
Vote his ass out!!! And be sure to vote for his no terms limit he is going to purpose. We dont need this jerk here longer than we have too.
355 pm I am sure he is meeting with governor walz and Minnesota rep raghead to get there theivery of public funds update Than the mayors ball.
ASD just went virtual for the rest of the week, again citing the conditions of the roads and sidewalks.
Great job Tuerk!
Tuerk isn’t listening. He is down in DC at a bogus conference spending our taxpayer dollars and ignoring what’s going on in Allentown. He likes being mayor in name only (and check). He is really good at that .
I'm so glad we went to year round street sweeping, with the brainiac idea that they could plow to the curb, which NEVER happened, and not even now with the cars removed. It has been a great revenue enhancer for the parking authority, and in this emergency, for the city tower, too.....
My favorite was seeing Mark Shadda on Facebook trying to talk like the mayor, saying all the streets were plowed. Lmao then hes on Whitehall St. where some shoveled a mound of snow in the middle of the street and the plow couldnt pass. I love it. Throw all your snow in the middle of the road. Then we can really tell what got plowed. #Nothingplowed
Answers shithole by design and than not only ice skating during from the duckshit pond by there designs under the arch.
There was two tracked bobcats at youells and it looked as if youells handled the snow itself trucking it away. Than this could have been a farce created by the city with rental equipment like the loey's intersactum of mayor for life daddonna.
He was never voted in in the first place just like a 2020 anomaly.
Mark Shahda lives in Whitehall off Mauch Chunk Rd. Funny though... he owns multiple properties in Allentown......
Mark Shahda is a puppet of the mayor and knows he has it good. He has no formal education and is not an engineer as required by city code. He knows blind obedience and that is all the qualifications Tuerk requires.
It should be no surprise he is out there speaking the mayor’s words. He would do it in a cheap suit with sneakers and a court jester hat if Tuerk asked him. A classic example of “yes boss”
The city obviously didn’t investigate his background before promoting him, they would have learned a lot.
He owns multiple properties on a city salary? How is that possible? 🤔 Does he have.a second job or maybe an organization he runs? Ha ha ha
He needs a portelette in his yard as well for the convenience of the homeless, in fact all city council people should have the same in their yards.
Matt left Allentown for a little getaway with Michaela Boyer.
It is time for a Right to Know request on the mayor and his staff's travel during the last 4 years. I want to see frequency, duration, and attendees. This should actually be made public for all taxpayers to review and presented at a council meeting.
Mark, like his predecessor, came up through the ranks. Experience vs a diploma.
Monthly reports on spending are presented by the controller. The reports, which are available online, have all City expenditures. All you have to do is look.
The controller is a moron and presents data how he and the Mayor and Finance Director want. The controller hasn’t served the city well. He focuses on BS pcard reports with $1.96 paid in tax while people are shoveling money into their vehicles.
The mayor and all elected officials should have a separate report for business trips and should not be hidden in a report that combines all expenses. The business trips should be individually listed with full details.
This information should be in the budget documents as well.
And that’s a damn lie. Garbage hasn’t came to pick up garbage in our neighbor since the snowstorm. Your mayor is a D**k S***ing b***h.. doesn’t take care of the constituents at all but fighting for that big nose little girl to get a raise in his office. I wonder what type of extra jobs she’s doing to warrant a raise
The Controller is a joke. He won't call Tuerk out.
His kid works for the city to. Just connect the dotes. Not to hard to do.
And Mark has done so well with this snowstorm with the years of experience. His position requires an engineering degree. No experience trumps that requirement. Sorry, a municipal public works director should have formal education.
Like his predecessor he weaseled his way to the top spot by being a yes man and kissing the ring of the mayor, with absolutely zero regard for the workers.
Once again, a big sick joke on the taxpayers and residents of a turd world city. It just seems inconceivable that the streets that had to be vacated couldn't be plowed curb to curb. Are they going to pull the same stunt and vacate the cars to finish the job that could have been done the first go round? Who is the idiot that runs this shit show? One only has to travel to other cities to see it can be done!
I think someone needs to take responsibility for this mess ! Start with PW Director ! He must go absolutely no leadership. One more storm in the city is shut down. Oh I forgot he just received 9k increase in salary!! WOW !!
If you look at the budget, I see in the Mayors office memberships and publications have jumped from $660 in 2020 (O'Connell and covid) to $482 in 2022, to $62K in 2025. I also see there are "civic expenses" and I am not sure if that includes hotel/food reimbursements. That expense jumped from $18 in 2020, $0 in 2022, to $70K in 2025. The Mayors office also pays out $400 in mileage reimbursements, which in 2020 was also $0.
Civic Expenses are Tuerk’s “support me” fund to non-profits, organizations and this fund is also used for attendance and functions.
Matt and his team have mastered having money in various accounts to support his desire and need for attention. Unfortunately for the citizens the mayor is everywhere but Allentown. He shows up everywhere….but Allentown
The entire city administration is a joke. There is not one good person in the city leadership. Jabba the Hut stunt double Vicki Kistler has been milking the city for many years and she is pure evil.
The local DNC heads will not be happy with Turek as the snow covered streets make it hard for there whookers to walk the streets. Than there is the fact that it is also hard for there pull up drug stores to operate from there normal corners and have to move to a different one.
When I have to attend a conference for work, I'm expected to give a presentation of what I learned afterwards. Where's our presentation to all of this bullshit he goes to?
ABE - let’s talk about how Eli Lilly is investing $3.5 billion on a new facility in Upper Macungie Township. Matt Tuerk has managed to attract no real investment in Allentown.
Let's think instead of engaging in mindlessness. An area regarded as suburb of Allentown conducive to building a large facility was chosen. A manufacturing facility of this scale would not work in city limits.Perhaps because of all the positive developments occurring in Allentown, UMT was chosen. Consider congratulating those that had a part of having it happen.
On 17th street last night a city truck drove by and the plow was dropped scrapping macadam sparks flying.
UMT is not a suburb of Allentown. Yuck.
This disgraceful Mayor keeps trying to say that the temperature has kept them from removing the snow and that this was historic. He’s such A liar. We are a week away, and the streets are barely any better. If you want a lesson in poor government look no further than Allentown.
Palowski had worse storms and managed to have the Allentown city streets cleared. The technology with equipment didn’t exist When he was Mayor.
This Mayor comes up with a lie, and then he runs with it. He thinks we are not smart enough to read through his lies and bullshit. He is absolutely the worst Mayor we’ve ever had. I would trade him for fed Ed any day.
