Taking care of Business

“In Allentown, Public Service has always been a Family Business"

Now I dont know Mrs. Binder personally, and judging by her resume she appears to be very qualified and extremely intelligent. She has a long background in social services and community engagement. However, that is only what I see on a piece of paper. This is not about Mrs. Binder--she is a long standing community ally.

There is an opening on the Allentown housing board that mayor Tuerk has to fill. As many of you know Mr. Binder has just been elected to city council.

Does the mayor’s appointment of Mrs. Binder have anything to do with the fact that her husband in my opinion is considered a swing vote? Matt Tuerk only makes moves that benefit him.

The mayor continues to make questionable moves to advance his agenda. Mrs. Binder has been in the community for many years and suddenly now that her husband has been elected to council, she is appointed by Mayor Tuerk? How can you appoint spouses of people on city council and it not be looked at like quid pro quo? This is disgustingly wrong, but not surprising coming from this Mayor. Mr. Binder should not vote on this appointment. His vote would make it even more corrupt. "Sorry honey, I had to vote No." "Jeremy you're outside and the dog is inside."

Seriously though the dude has only been on council for like a month and this stunt is going on?My guess is that we will find out when Mayor Tuerk brings his next initiative to full council. Pay close attention to how Mr Binder votes. Then, we will see if there was a secret deal made behind closed doors.

My bet is that it has something to do with getting his secretary promoted.

Atleast the snow is gone.

You got it right! Politics in Allentown has been a family business for many years. Hendricks got his son into the city and even got him promoted before the voters finally got his corrupt ass out of politics. Hendricks sold his soul to the devil himself, Matt Tuerk, in exchange for no targeted retaliation against his son.
O’Connel got his incompetent and incapable son a comfortable position in the IT department and he also got his son promoted before he lost to Tuerk.
Mota was instrumental in getting several people jobs in Allentown who were not capable.
Lightner, Hanlon, Shahda, Kistler, Agosto..the list goes on and on. They all got family and friends jobs, grants, and favors in the city.

They all owe Matt Tuerk and he will always come calling for a favor when the time is right for him.

Interesting. The Binder’s, Thiel’s and Tuerk’s are a close unit. Matt Tuerk’s campaign was successful partially due to Charlie Thiel. Thiel is a business partner of both Sherri Binder and Jeremy Binder. I gotta hand it to Tuerk-he knows how to keep his loyalists fat, dumb, happy, and most importantly-close!

She will just be looking at the insider trading Jennings inc property management organization as well as those in the know. In spring the commercial properties will be for sale as well as high priced rentals of HUD with the conflicts as thick as molasses in January. Like the man on the zoning hearing board working for Jennings and not abstaining his vote as a pass?

Is there truth that employees are slumlords themselves? I know of several CoA employees and council people who have their own rentals but don’t know the type of landlord they are. It is quite suspicious that they can afford these homes on city salaries, or are they getting special pricing because they are city seized homes and friendly with the right people in DCED and the 5th floor?

Just a thought but as the executive director of Ripple Communities, an NGO that deals in housing related issues and has, I believe received grant money from the city, does this not pose a conflict of interest? Has anyone asked this question? I would think it needs to be.

Ripple had $1m of previously awarded city ARPA money converted to HUDs HOME-ARPA fund to the organization in April 2024 and I recall some pushback from the Executive Director because the money came with a lot of additional paperwork that they questioned. She asked to table the award until it could be researched. Council President Hendricks pushed the money to Ripple despite the additional transparency requirements. Council and the administration wanted the less restrictive $1million of ARPA money recolored to the more restrictive HUD-ARPA so that the originally awarded ARPA money could be freed up for the city use.

How strange is it when an NGO asks to table $1m in funding because they didn't like the additional conditions on the use of the money? Council awarded the money anyway so the original ARPA $1m was available. Ripple knew the city ARPA money had very little controls and auditing. The city knew as well and decided they wanted that money back for their use.

This is how the NGO's locally have grown into multifaceted land holdings for local banks. I for one don't understand a present mayor and past mayor for life's properties have never had renovation permits posted for all to see on either. This is almost like the in kind gift of trips to the southern most parts of the world and a basement remodel of the one in Danbury Connecticut no permits ever for all mayors properties.

Chaos and its only mid April

It's summer, and the streets are alive with the usual suspects: dirt bikes, those loud little ghetto scooters, and the three-wheeled mac...
