I wanted to get everyone's ideas on their top things they would like to see the mayor do to make the city better. I am pretty sure someone from his office reads this blog. So we can see if he entertains the people he serves or outsiders that visit or just leads from the top. I am confident he wont do any of the suggestions mentioned. My top 5 in no particular order.
1. Fix Streets- they are awful
2. Secure the
Parks so no one is hurt or worse.
3. Use
remaining $8-10 Mil ARPA money set aside last budget to improve the existing
APD and AFD facilities, rent a space for patrol that meets needs, stop the idea
of new police and fire stations.
4. Ask the HR department and
Controller to complete a top-down review of inefficient positions
and eliminate all unnecessary positions including those ARPA funded
($1.2million savings in ARPA alone)
5. Do an audit of all the city owned vehicles that are used as take home cars? I know for a fact there are rules being broken on who should have them and their specific usages.
I offered 5 requests, and left plenty of room for everyone elses. Lets hear them. Dont hold back. I rarely moderate any comments.

Where do I start Abe?
The problem with this Mayor is he only cares about himself and his future.
He Destroys homeless camps.
He has a police chief that allows his officers to commit crimes.
He gets Unnecessary raises for his staff and other city personnel.
He is trying to float this mega bond to build a New Police and fire stations for what reason?
With the ridiculously high pensions and all this frivolous spending the city will be bankrupt in a few years.
The city is doomed.
Get out ASAP!
I would like to see a review of contracts with unions. I support our emergency services but that doesn’t allowing the Union to bankrupt this city.
I keep seeing claims on this blog and Molovinsky that the police and fire are killing the city financial strength. whoever is negotiating on the city side is a moron and the union side is a genius.
Seems like the union’s don't think twice about bankrupting the city as long as they get the most out of the city $$$$. Our leaders seem to hope that the issue doesn’t come to fruition until they are long gone.
Didn’t the fire union pay for billboards supporting Matt Turk? Seems like possible quid pro quo. Wonder what the Fire Union got in return?
11:06 pm - The homeless camps shouldn’t have been allowed in the first place. I will fault Tuerk for moving them up the Jordan, but certainly not for now getting it right by kicking them out.
Credit Nat Hyman, not the feckless Reality Show Mayor.
Abe -
1) We need more focus on quality of life issues, like noise, double parking, and upkeep of rental (and personal) properties. Workers in the offices that cover those areas need to be out of the office and being proactive instead of waiting for complaints.
2). We don’t need a new zoning code, we need someone heading the zoning department that will actually enforce existing zoning laws. Currently, they are allowing larger homes to be carved up into illegal rooming houses in single family neighborhoods. That should NEVER be allowed to happen. A change at the top of Zoning for someone who knows what they’re doing should be a priority.
Odd, I see the overwhelming majority of comments on MOLOVINSKY On ALLENTOWN calling for additional officers.
Read again
I forgot one more thing. Matt can you release the Scott Curtis Investigation into the alleged discrimination and harassment within the city that my tax dollars paid for?
First, I would like to see police presence west of 19th street. The West End residents pay a disproportionate share of property taxes yet there is zero police presence in West End neighborhoods. Cars routinely speed, litter, ignore stop signs and double park. I would much rather see an occasional police presence in the West End than see the full motorcycle brigade doing a ceremonial ride during the St. Patrick's Day parade.
Second, I would like to see greater code enforcement regulations on renter-occupied housing. In my neighborhood, renter-owned properties with absentee/non-local landlords are far more likely to have weeds, high grass, litter, junk, abandoned vehicles, nuisance activities etc...
I have been reading MOLOVINSKY on ALLENTOWN regularly for many, many, years.
Actually since week one.
I’m what you call a native born Allentonian and a bona fide senior citizen.
You are a liar, a fool, or both.
Do the comments on MM on A call for more vigorous enforcement on quality of life issue?
Absolutely.
Has MM on A ever supported anything that remotely supports Defund PoPo?
Only in your addled brain.
I can remember when 10th St. was the DMZ, then 12th., then 15th and quickly 17th. Now it’s Ott St.
Basic police policy requires directing services to high crime areas.
Full stop.
The East Side and West End have always been underserved and will remain underserved.
Allentown is currently a study in mediocrity in policing, to be kind.
To be honest about the quality of the ASD is not to be anti-police, on the contrary.
The Sweep Program was designed as a piece of Systematic Rental Inspection Program to address most the problems that you have identified.
How is it working?
The bottom line?
No much, except the Allentown Parking Authority, works very well in what is the third largest municipality in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Allentown is increasingly becoming a major concern for every contiguous municipality.
Rot spreads.
I don’t think any ugly weed walls running through public parks will be found in Bethlehem or Easton. Actually, not even through Dorney Park. Can’t imagine why not. /s
Oddly, I'd like to see police presence EAST of 19th St!!! Apparently, judging by the comments, the whole city is a police no-go zone... SO, where DO they GO???? Allentown streets have become a defacto raceway. Forget making a right on red for fear of getting rammed by a speeder. I note South Whitehall routinely looks for speeders. I've also noticed waaaay too many cars with altered suspension... here's an idea to try out... fine the driver and then fine the inspection station hanging the wallpaper on these cars. After a while they won't sport current inspection stickers and they'll be easier to spot and fine. BTW, we were told the city doesn't receive much of the revenue from tickets... SO WHAT!!!... the driver still pays the full Monte.
I can excuse double parking when there is NO spaces open, but this blatant bullshit of double parking next to, or adjacent to, an open space, needs an immediate ticketing!!!
Two apples and an orange.
It’s been said before…where you have a subpar Mayor you will get a subpar Chief of Police.
No police presence UNTIL the call goes out that shots were fired... then the streets are CLOGGED with police cruisers!!! Funny (funny ironic, NOT funny HAHA...) that people on both ends of the town complain of a lack of police presence!!!... and YES, where the devil were they before the shots were fired???? BTW, weren't the "shot spotters", that we pay dearly for, supposed to help quell the shots???? That's what we were told when we had them installed!!! SHIT, they can't even find the people setting off fireworks RIGHT UNDER THE CAMERAS... another USELESS taxpayer RIPOFF we financed!!!
9:28 am & 12:08 pm - You are both correct in your observation that the crime and quality of life problems that were downtown have crept westward and now threaten the west end, and eastward to threaten the best sections of the East Side.
Under the policies of the current mayor, no neighborhood is safe from being overtaken by the problems that were formerly contained to downtown.
If I could make one plea to those living in the West End and East Side it would be to stop supporting Tuerk, and vote Ed Zucal in the coming election. I’m not saying he has all the answers, but I do believe that he would be infinitely better than Tuerk.
The results of the primary election with so many votes from those areas going to Tuerk sickened me, since voters in those areas used to be much better informed about what was going on in their city.
There is a chance for a do-over come November, and it’s an opportunity that cannot be missed. Hopefully voters in those areas will see the light, or they won’t like the reality that another 4 years of Tuerk will bring to their neighborhoods.
Quality Of Life issues facing the city are tureks own making, ICE should deport him to Alligator Alcatraz for his farce against allentowns populous. This thing is just another circus freak that has its own show the walking dick with ears!
Thanx, ABE keep pumping the circuscarnivals shide show stories out till the FBI returns and take many to federal penitentiarys as well as bait for the sharks.
Outside of Ed Zucal there is no intelligence life in Allentown's city hall. That's the problem only the voters can fix. So far they have shown no such inclination.
