As I mentioned, I didnt know Mr. Bosket personally, however I had heard of him. The man helped people learn how to cut hair. Im going to bet he gave 100s or 1000s of free haircuts. I read how he cut black workers hair who were poor just so they looked presentable at work. That is amazing.
I am sure he spoke to troubled youth and even adults offering guidance. My understanding was he had several barber shops not just in Allentown.
I strongly feel his honoring should have been done much sooner. I cant help to think this is just a Mayor Tuerk rally to get more black votes in November. My memes are from feedback I have read and heard from citizens.
I guess what I am saying is that Matt Tuerk is not respected by the black, brown, and white communities and his efforts to gain favor are seen as fake and agenda driven. What has Matt Tuerk really done for anyone but himself and his posse on the 5th? Well, specific members of his posse.
Valania Park was recently renovated in 2023 and Gov. Shapiro came and did a big news press on it.
Obviously that wasnt the time to do a name change. The controversy that came about by the Parks and Rec committee stating the procedure for the name change was not appropriate made, has taken away from this event. Why didnt Tuerk or City Council check with the Parks and Rec Committee to make sure there wasnt a conflict?
Matt just bullying and doing whatever he wants made a special event turn into something not genuine. Im curious why couldnt Jackson St. Park be named after Mr. Bosket? Isnt that closer to where his barbershop was than Valania Park is? Jackson St. unless I am wrong is named because of the street it is on, so changing the name wouldnt be a big deal.
Well, now we have a newish park in Allentown. Good news we honored Clyde Bosket Sr. Bad news we erased the honoring of another esteemed Allentownian.

Bob Ross is classic!!!! His painting is so true.
Growing up in East Allentown I am very familiar with Irving Street and Irving Park Pool. Now, Irving Park is named after a former student of mine, Andre Reed, a standout pro football player. Deserving honor, for sure.
I know Mr. Valania was a well respected Allentown educator who deserved his honor.
Never thought about it until now, but who was this person Mr/Mrs. Irving who was formerly honored by naming the park/pool after him/her? Anyone know?
Abe thank you for bringing light to this dedication. I wish i didnt have to agree with you but Mayor Tuerk didnt think this thru. Maybe, just maybe his heart was in the right place, but his brains werent.
I clearly remember the day the young guy was shot dead in that park during a basketball game.
Bullshit he's self-serving. What he didn't think it through to follow the rules either. Get lost you loser.
Well you can’t expect Mayor Matt would know about that daylight murder, he’s not from here.
I seen Dr pepper running red lights in her white Benz SUV to make the coronation of the name change.
Exactly, he knew exactly what he was doing. Cares only about Matt.
In another 30/40 years the Bosket family can silently watch from the sidelines as the park is renamed to honor yet the most current exemplary citizen as an another election looms.
It will be the Bosket turn to grieve anew.
Fuck this Valania dope, whoever he was.
He is useless to the politics of Allentown at this point in time.
Erase him from history.
Wow your a heartless POS
I remember when I was driving by the park one morning with my young daughter and she begged me to stop for a little bit so she could use the playground.
She had just gone down the slide when the kids from a nearby daycare arrived. One of the instructors came over with a worried look and asked me if I had checked the slide before letting my daughter use it.
I had no idea what she meant, and she told me that they had to check all the playground equipment and the area around it for needles before they allow their kids to use the park. Apparently, some people leave behind their drug needles at night.
With the renaming now behind us, I think that Mr. Bosket would be even more honored if the Mayor and his police chief would enforce our laws and make sure our all playgrounds are actually safe for kids. No kid, or their parents, should have to worry about getting stuck by a used needle just because they want to play..
I'm a big fan of recognizing Mr. Bosket's contributions in Allentown. However, it's obvious that Tuerk couldn't sleep at night knowing someone might get their feelings hurt by a park in Allentown being named for a privileged white person of European ethnicity. I'm only wondering what needs to be changed next....everything named after Chew, Hamilton, Trexler etc...?
Privileged eh? Always because they are white, they are Privileged. Cause a white person has never been underprivileged. Your a moron
I was teasing Tuerk and being sarcastic...maybe you are the moron?
Well negating the contribution of all the white European honky types who fought, bled and does to preserve the Union and end slavery along the way was a nice step in scotching white privilege, eh?
Personally I have of the race, ethnicity or color of the individual who had the honor of the park name that was stripped away from his family.

How you gonna feel in thirty years when the new name is changed and a Latino Mayor is casting about for votes?
I am new to the Allentown area and am already regretting this move.
Corrupt politicians, horrible city leaders, poor air and water quality, one of the worst school districts on the easy coast, and high taxes.
Sad that the Bosket family had to settle for a second hand honor.
Speaking of honoring….why is the LGBTQIALMNOPQ<>€! flag a default outside City Hall? Is the mayor sending a signal? I find it disrespectful and insulting to anyone who identifies as heterosexual. Does the mayor have a gay club on the fifth floor?
If your an American you should really be offended. He never wears an American Flag pin always the Pride Flag. Check every photo.
Has anyone else seen the raids just off Kensington on 7th to the east just sway the eyes away from chief Roccas second brother on his mother's side distribution center? This is the second one at the same house that is part of Allentowns Economic development department.
Clyde's son was part of Lehigh valley development for Jennings grant programs on 7th. There isn't many that remember the Camio just beoned Clyde's shop on 6th Street. Than there was the basement after hours drink specials in the s2hundred block that has now been remodeled.
Because Tuerk hates himself and feels better by flying rainbow flag each day and re-naming parks after non-whites.
I have noticed. Its ridiculous.
Don’t you dare speak ill of Alan Jennings. The man is a saint.
