Could the City be any slower?

Did anyone see the mayor's new kick is putting rubber speed bumps throughout the city in an attempt to curb pedestrians getting struck? However why did he wait so long to do this? I guess there is no worry that they will be damaged since he hasn't figured out snow removal. They claim that it costs only $2500 to put a set of speed bumps down. $2500! Maybe if he wasn't going on stupid trips all over the country we could have speed bumps all over the city, instead of Allentown being littered with giant potholes at every turn.  Matt is combating them with a TikTok and by filling them with Oreo cookie crumbles.

His plan to have zero vehicular deaths by 2030 is clearly a claim handed to him by Mark Shahda, you know the non engineer.

Why aren’t the police out there doing traffic stops in these high speed areas? It this is the same old story just like the homelessness the problem is always been there yet the leaders take forever to do anything.

The speed bumps over on Graham St. have worked wonders in that area. Grant it, people go over them slow and then floor their car in between them (ha ha ha) but it makes it more difficult to speed in that area. The ones in front of Dieruff have helped a great deal and slowing traffic down.  If you recall it had to take someone getting killed before the speed bumps were put in there.

Why does the city wait and continue to be reactive to everything?  Not just speed bumps.  Put the ******* speed bumps in all the areas where people drive fast.

Put them on Linden St. Turner St. You want to have the slowest city in the country mayor?  is that going to be your new slogan we are the "slowest city" yeah you're right we are the slowest city we have the slowest ideas the slowest brain power and the slowest mayor in the country....well, except when it comes to boarding a plane out of Allentown.

Slowest city in the nation? Please. That trophy’s been gathering dust for the last four+ years. At this point, the only thing moving slower than this administration is the decision‑making inside it — molasses in winter would file a defamation suit for being compared.

IMBECILES one and all claiming professionalism!)$?

Why install speed bumps ? !! When the potholes serve as same effect!!! Everyone slows down for potholes!

Is the light still out at 6th and walnut?

I believe the City has refused to use traditional enforcement for speeding because the Mayor will be uncomfortable that 90% of the citations would be for cars with loud mufflers, tinted windows and blasting music. This way he can try to slow vehicles down without the enforcement statistics that would make him wring his hands with worry. The speeding in Allentown is so bad at this point, that I'm in favor of any solution.

I agree with 7:21. There’s a reason everyday traffic and behavior violations are no longer being addressed in Allentown. That’s because the Mayor and his administration will be accused of coming down too hard on his “hommies,” or whatever the term is now for persons of color.

Look, Allentown’s population is now about 65% of what are thought to be non-White. So, it’s only logical the majority of violators cited and fined will be persons of color. No one wants to be accused of that! Much easier, less hassle, to just look the other way.

Ridiculous, in that most of the persons of color forced to live in Allentown, and who do so respectfully, would also like to see the streets outside their homes brought under tighter control. Who really wants all the noise, litter, vandalism, graffiti, and hooliganism that defines Allentown right now?

I was kinda of shocked by the sticker price too, so I did a quick look online and similar ones run anywhere from 150 to 500 dollars. Kickbacks to campaign? or one helluva an installation fee.

Agree. The police don't want to police, they want to hang out in their cars in parks parking lots.

I think you’re on to something. Kickbacks to his future campaign, spending money for his travels, and equipment for his blossoming social media career.

Abe. Did you see the meeting that Council had where the NIZ was touted as an overwhelming success for the city? I am not exactly sure what city they are talking about. It must be nice to tout success for the entire city when the barometer for success is the frequency of deposits to their own bank accounts. Everything in the NIZ area is either a big corporation, gone, or on life support. Napoli claimed the NIZ has helped bring foot traffic into his small clothing stores. laughs. Why does he self-promote his business at any chance he can? I thought there were rules against using your political position for personal gain?!? Maybe I am wrong. Bringing traffic doesn’t mean sales. Anyone who has ever run a business knows that.
Then the controller actually said, with a straight face, that “only about 100 people lost their homes because of the NIZ.” Only about 100. As if that’s some kind of acceptable casualty count. He needs to go, he is getting old and far too out of touch and his allegiance to the deceptive practices of the administration and big business is unethical.

The way they all minimize harm and twist language to justify their decisions is unbelievable.

Local officials can call the NIZ a success all they want. But, from a state taxpayer perspective, the NIZ has been a massive failure. Our state treasury has gained no new dollars from that Allentown “experiment” beyond what was already coming in before the NIZ.The scheme is still in the red after all these years and there’s little chance it will ever break even.

So Napoli getting more foot traffic at his store means shit. Yea support the NIZ as a councilman if it supports your business. Seems ethical

Remember Napoli is a part of the Chamber to. Just connect the dots. Only wanted to be Council President to further fill his pockets.
