Word of the Day: Ice Cream — Because the Mayor Finally Picked Something as Soft as His Leadership”
While some cities get infrastructure and others get fiscal responsibility.
Ours gets… a “Word of the Day” series from a mayor who genuinely believes the public wakes up wondering what vocabulary he’s blessing us with next.
Recently, he’s taken to social media to unleash a catastrophically stupid “Word of the Day” series…
Because apparently nothing screams “competent leadership” like a man who treats basic vocabulary as if he’s discovered fire.
A sorry attempt to make him appear to be smart and capable leader, but it is much more like another cheap cry for attention. Poor Matt is really hung up on not being popular in life and we get to sit here listening to his cries for attention.
Today’s word? “Ice Cream.” Bold choice for a man whose biggest accomplishment this year was remembering his TikTok password.
Tomorrow’s is rumored to be “Ass Clown,” which is fitting for exactly who we have running our city. It is quite bold for a man whose approval rating could fit on a Post‑it. A mayor so convinced of his own popularity that he’s basically running a one‑man circus, starring himself, directed by himself, applauded by… himself.
It’s almost impressive, really — the sheer confidence of someone who thinks the city is clamoring for his linguistic leadership. Potholes? Still there. Budgets? Still wobbly. Snow plan? Let’s not even go there. But by all means, let’s gather round for today’s inspirational adjective.
He posts like he’s the main character in a town that’s mostly just trying to get to work to afford his tax increases without hitting a crater the size of a Ford Focus.
But hey — if nothing else, his social media has taught us a valuable lesson:
When actual accomplishments are scarce, content creation becomes a form of cardio.
And this mayor?
He’s training for a marathon.
Tho the Easter Bunny may have skipped the Tuerk residence, the Tooth Fairy did not.

Memes are great. I hope he knows everyone in city hall and now the county reads this blog and laughs.
Boy can’t wait to see next years budget !!!
I’m sure a tax increase is in order!! Bc we had really bad winter, I mean we never had 12” snowstorm!!! But cost are increasing!! Like new MD position!! Plus the other nonfunctional positions in his office ! Maybe someone on council will wake up !!
Potholes and snow removal? Tuerk can’t even keep traffic lights working.
I have no idea how long the one on Union Boulevard (by Coca-Cola Park) has been out, but it’s been a while. I don’t know that the one on 6th and Walnut hasn’t worked since before Christmas!
These are the basic tasks of local government that he’s failing at! Imagine how incompetent he is for those things that are much more complex.
I hear the police are getting a DROP pension. And they are moving into a new station. How much is that going to raise taxes?
Well Ms. Boyer finally got her raise that she has been laser focused on for years. She focused on absolutely nothing else. Thanks to her buddies in Human Resources and a boss who rewards laziness she is now a larger burden on the taxpayers. I can’t wait for her to see her community involvement now that she is the Civic Innovations Manager. My prediction is that she will do nothing and the taxpayers will be bamboozled once again. Oh, and look for Matt to “reorg” the mayor’s office to “better align with the work they’ve been doing” and conveniently they will all get promotions again .
the new Managing Director. This position I actually agree with. Matt needs someone to blame for his own stupidity and us taxpayers need someone to reach out to since no one in the mayor’s office is there and they certainly never return a call. This position could easily be funded fully by getting rid of the other positions.
Council to the rescue? Not happening. Napoli is so far up Tuerk’s ass that you can”t tell who is who. Napoli is a real disappointment snd he will continue to push Matt’s agenda ss long as he is President.
Unfortunately I think Matt “Kardashian” Trump…sorry, Tuerk is quite narcissistic and he enjoys any attention in any form. This blog probably feeds his ego daily.
The FOP has made Tuerk their b*!tch. During a negotiation year, he GAVE them perhaps the biggest gift they ever asked for, a DROP, without getting anything in return. The FOP leadership is telling their guys that they are still asking for huge raises in this upcoming contract, AND that since the DROP had been signing by the mayor and the FOP, it doesn’t need to go in front of council. The DROP allows these cops to buy back both military time AND former police time at other departments. How does this help retention??!! Also, these geniuses are allowing cops to use their last 30 days including holiday time and some overtime pay to calculate their pensions entering the DROP. Is the mayor actively trying to bankrupt the entire city and Pension plans? I hope he realizes he now had to give the DROP to fire and SEIU….he’ll have absolutely no leg to stand on once it comes to negotiating with them since he just gave this ridiculous benefit to the cops for nothing in return.
Always thought Tuerk was a hapless and hopelessly ineffective leader steered into the mayorship by the folks in the NIZ and Promise Neighborhoods who have jointly been in control of Allentown for over a dozen years. He's been a helluva successful target of misdirection but apparently enjoys the publicity generated by his incompetence.
If the FOP is smart, they will take a good look at the Fire contract and mirror everything for police that fire has. Tuerk didn't blink an eye giving fire whatever they wanted in the contract. He will want something in return from the FOP for the stealing from the taxpayers though, so be ready. Strangely Allentown billboards paid for by the fire union showed up endorsing him for mayor shortly after. Quid Pro Quo? Possibly.
I'm willing to bet that the Word of the Day contest is something he picked up at a US Conference of Mayors seminar. That's really witty, fun and creative way for City Hall to interact with residents! Money well spent.
I can’t wait for this year’s budget delivery. I guarantee Patel still will not have the answers to any questions and then go on an incoherent and confusing ramble about something completely unrelated, leaving everyone in the room dazed and confused.
ItZ all under the guidance of jenningZ INC and the misappropriation of public fundZ allocated through hud.Z fundingZ, the big dig of the valley!)$?
The FOP will further bankrupt the city if a DROP pension goes through. Remember last time, the water plant had to be sold to balance the pension fund. Allentown never learns from their mistakes.
Certified and authenticated assklOWNs imported as some sort of eXpertZ pussing itZ agenda designZ upon the unsuspecting public as progress of corse with public dollars!)$?
