Omg!!
I finally have something positive to write about. The William Allen Canaries baseball team has been amazing all season. They lost 5 games during the regular season. Yes 5 games!!
They beat Whitehall to win the EPC championship, the first time they did this in I dont know 100 years, no seriously I think they did it in early 2000.
Their hitting has been on point all year and their pitching has unmatched depth. I absolutely love seeing Allentown schools dominating sports. Dieruff guy myself but...
The word is a freshman pitcher has got the attention of big college schools with Michigan coming to scout him. He is ranked as one of the best pitchers in the state and nationally ranked in his class.
A special acknowledgement to head coach Rob Leskosky. He has done an amazing job with this young group of men. Coaching such a diverse group I am sure has its challenges, but you are doing it. Congrats.
On Memorial day, weather permitting Allen will play Northampton at Desalles University at 3:30pm for the district Semi-Finals.
Hey wouldn't it be nice if the city recognized these kids? Maybe inspire the other secret athletes attending Allen and Dieruff to come out and play.
I hate transitioning to this because I wanted to focus on the baseball team, but there is alot of talk about helping the youth, getting them away from violent lives. Put these kids on a billboard in the city or the one at the PPL Center. Let other kids see that and say "hey I want to be on that." Too many times, well all the time I talk about the negative things in the city. Here is a chance to inspire and get the attention of the city's young athletes. I am not aware of other areas putting their athletes on display on a huge level.
Let's go Canaries!!!

They have had a great season. Great idea with recognizing those who accomplish things. Im sure the city won't do anything. I mean tmr is memorial day and pee wee has done nothing.
Good post, good ideas, thanks
If there are gay or transgender players of the team, the mayor will surely recognize them… otherwise don’t count on it. I am sure council members Mota or Gerlach will recognize the team. They actually care about the community even when there is no photo op or camera on them. I have seen it.
Congrats to the Canaries! You don’t want the mayor to recognize you anyway and bring down your incredible season.
