City Council this evening was another full on example of
just how dysfunctional and out of touch these leaders are at executing the
functions of this city. The members of
this community have been asking for years to help with the unhoused population
problem. The council and mayor pretended
to listen to the community and told concerned citizens to give their numbers to
Mike Hanlon. Will there be a follow up
or outreach? No one is going to reach back
to any of these people. Its an outright joke.
I am sure the only one that may reach out will be Cece because she has been a champion for the homeless for years. Yet her colleagues just laugh at her and ignore her concerns.
Now while I think the unsheltered deserve space made available by the City, I do not share the sentiment that anyone has the right to occupy space that is owned by another property owner. There would be no reason to own a property if anyone could live there. The city put the cart before the horse…once again.
I want to note that before everyone blames Mr. Hyman, someone should look in AFD because I am pretty sure they complained about 2 near drownings they to deal with by the property and the fact it is a flood plain. Just saying.
Moving on:
The city administration should have been in discussion with
community leaders and partners before making such a haphazardly executed
move. The council, Mayor, CED Director, and
Public Safety are the failures here and the unsheltered personnel are the ones
that are going to pay the price.
It Is reality that the area is a flood plain and presents a
safety concern. They should be SAFELY
moved in a DIGNIFIED manner that protects them and also provides security for
land owners.

Like every meeting. Utter joke. I did like when that lady said to Mr. Hendricks "your out of order" he freaked and she says go learn Roberts Rules. Then iIcould hear her say as she walked back to her seat. Thats why you got voted out!! Lmao. Classic.
I disagree that the homeless should be provided with a space made available by the city.
Taxpayers shouldn’t have to fund their lifestyle choice. I am supportive of getting them help quickly, as long as it’s by (state) licensed facilities and not in the city’s residential areas.
This homeless issue has been exacerbated by the City leaders who put their head in the sand and ignored this problem. Now the city makes Poorly thought out move and claimed a safety concern. People have been there for a long time and just now they’re realizing it’s a safety concern?
I do think the city leaders need to figure out a way to humanely deal with the unsheltered population, but that should not be at the taxpayers cost.
They really don't even care as it's just homeless headcount that keeps federal monies for there own personal pet projects.
Today's homeless advocates are merely facilititators of homelessness. Instead of demanding real statewide and national reform of our failed current policies on mental illness and addiction, they are acting as mere agents of these failed policies. They need to reevaluate their own thinking, presently they are too preoccupied with their own self righteousness to consider the damage and harm they are inflicting on the homeless and the larger society.
Handing out free food and other things such as clothing and backpacks to addicts and the mentally, without providing treatment programs serves only to make such distribution sites a magnate for the mentally ill and addicted. This is exactly what Ripple Communities and their donors are hoping to inflict on one of the last stable, diverse, owner occupied neighborhoods in Allentown's downtown. The Trexler Trust and other funding entities are giving their middle finger to the long term renters and homeowners of our wonderful community who have united against this existential threat for over two years and have gone to great lenghts and expense only to have our very reasoned objections cast aside in order the their West End self righteousness assuaged.
the single most embarrassing slap at Council last night was when a citizen stood at the podium, looked corrupt council in the faces (because they each have many), and said “you gave $300,000 to a gentleman who didn't even know how to describe what he was going to do with the money, you unanimously gave him money, imagine the impact that money would have had on the unsheltered?”
Dumbass leaders here in Allentown. Billy Joel should write a new song. Then the mayor and his group of mean girls can sing the new song on TiKTok again and get free camera time.
Now the homeless camp people are flat out calling Mayor Hipster a liar.
WTF?
