Perception or reality of crime?

There was a Shooting over the weekend in Allentown!!! Shocker. Apparently the victim and witnesses are not cooperating.  Shocker.

It pains me to ask, is Allentown getting safer?  I feel that there are less shootings this year.  But I am pretty sure not all of them are reported on the news.  Homicides may be down but that isnt the problem that most on social media are concerned about.  People are sick of the double parking, loud music, and dirt bikes.

Now you won't catch me walking down a dark alley late at night in the city.  That is just asking for trouble.  But have things changed?  Is your preception on crime a reality?  Or is your preception way past the reality that it wouldn't matter what the stats say on crime?

I think the Mayor and Chief Roca need to work on the preception of how bad it is vs the reality.  No stats are going to make people feel safer.  Good luck with that guys.

For example, remember when the PPL building opened?  There were cops everywhere on every corner. By all the parking decks.  The perception was that with all these cops around, one had nothing to worry about.  Now go to a game or concert.  You will be lucky if you see 5 cops.  Now the perception turns back to feeling unsafe walking to your car after the game.

One can build all the buildings they want.  Put up lights,  speed bumps, bike lanes whatever. Say crime is down, blah blah blah.  If the perception is unsafe the reality will not matter.

Sad to state the words "shots fired" are uttered, you will find cruisers galore... calling for something else is a crap-shoot for a response. This sad city is only about the money... ours.

Why doesn’t the mayor send his children to school in Allentown?

Mayor Tattoo is a fraud in all things
- not opinion, fact.

No longer matters to me what the perception of Allentown is. I just won't go there, especially downtown. Allentown has had years to take measures to take actions to make that place feel safe, but Allentown never put in the effort. Now, its flaws are overwhelming.

Early one, the downtown district street lighting should have been lit up to an extreme amount of lumens. Near daylight levels.

Early on, downtown should have made sure some kind of uniformed security person with a radio was stationed 2 officers per block. Could have been actual police officers or Guardian Angels type.

Early on, Allentown have developed acres of open air surface parking lots adjacent to the rear of the Hamilton Street business blocks. Instead, it offered unsafe, abandoned-feeling parking decks with confining, dirty elevators. No thanks.

Early on, Allentown could have created a heavy hand of enforcement reputation for downtown that quickly discouraged loiterers, loud and mischievous teens, parking violators.

Allentown had its chance to put its best face forward . . . . but it didn't do it.

No one I know in the greater Lehigh Valley even considers going to Allentown for an afternoon excursion, let alone dinner.
LMT’s only problem is the booming traffic getting to the from all the shopping, dining and medical facilities.

Why don't several city leaders even live within Allentown city limits ? It is my understanding the police chief doesn’t even live here but calls Allentown his home. His kid’s don’t call ASD their own, for sure.
