Does anyone go to the Archer Hall? I have not gone myself. Not because I don't want too, but rather because I havent seen any shows that remotely interest me. I rarely see people leaving or going to the place. Nor has anyone I know gone there.
Oddly enough, and maybe its nothing but LehighValleyNews.com has been doing alot of stories about the hall and future acts. Do they not have much to write about or is their another reason?
I recently saw the Hall is going to have amateur boxing. I actually do not think this is a bad idea. I dont know of anywhere you can watch boxing at. I realize PPL center and Wind Creek have events but Im referring to the beginners of boxing vs the more established. Smaller MMA events arent around here to my knowledge either. Something Archer should look into.
While Im asking about any Archer experiences, how about the Moxy? It doesnt appear to ever have any people in its lobby or even the room lights on. I dont know how the place is holding on. Besides maybe a big event at the PPL center what would be the reason for anyone to stay downtown?? A festival to get shot at, a photo opp in front of the new arch? I can't see any businessmen staying there since what business would they be doing in Allentown.

You are giving Tuerk too much credit. He had absolutely nothing to do with the archer…like most things positive in the city. Also, ask the owners of amigos across the street how active it’s been and if it’s helpful for their business.
That highly unusual investment scheme(scam?) in Allentown has truly FAILED big time. All those taxpayer dollars could have been invested at the racetrack and produced a bigger return.
Now, we’re just stuck with it, as it continues on unquestioned, never evaluated, by our new media.
I think the Archer Music Hall has a chance for some success. The performers may not be widely known, but they have very dedicated fan bases that will travel a good distance to see them play in small venues just like AMH. Good examples of these types of past and future indie bands scheduled include Guster and Modest Mouse. I'm way more concerned about the success prospects of Moxy Hotel. Go by there on a Saturday morning and it looks abandoned. I just wonder if downtown Allentown can support a high quality boutique hotel. Except for M-F from 8:00 - 4:30 the downtown is completely devoid of people and business activity. I wouldn't be shocked to see this hotel get converted into a NIZ style building with revolving 1 year lease shops on first floor and efficiency apartments above.
Hi! A bit off topic, but fyi, the Mayor is in LA for another US conference of mayors meeting and to be on Tim Heideckers podcast. Also to no one's surprise, I was not reappointed to the parks board because you can't speak out against the Mayor because it hurts his feelings. ππΌππΌ
I've been to the Archer and Arrow a bunch of times. It's fine. It's sad that it's Livenation.
Completely off topic…but word is that the mayor offered the Allentown Police a VERY lucrative DROP pension to keep their senior admin around….during a contract negotiation year, without getting anything in return. How absolutely absurd is that. If that is true, that better be all that the city offers that union come negotiation time. There better not be any raises etc which they always come begging for or this mayor and his administration should be sued for malfeasance. No other unions have a DROP and they had to beg for minor raises in the last contract negotiations. APD should get 4 years of zero raises if they get this DROP.
I have heard over and over again that he is a retaliatory bitch. I am not surprised at all.
LA now? Does he actually ever pay attention to Allentown? Seems he only pays attention to is when he needs money to fund his trips.
Lets see if this makes it too council. They have to vote on it if this is true. Then I'll break the numbers down for ya. This is more costly for the city than they will tell you
The nasty rumor of a drop pension is just not true. Check your source. They are deeply mistaken and misinformed. Matt has no interest in a drop.
Nah, the poster is 100% correct. One of my boys is an Allentown Police officer and said they’ve have been having meetings this week about it trying to sell it to their members because some of the younger guys might not go for it.
As a proud 22 year SEIU member, I first read that comment and said “that can’t possibly be true. There is no way the backbone of the city workforce had been in a contract negotiation where we were fighting for scraps while the mayor was offering the police union a DROP for absolutely nothing in return”. So I made a few phone calls and yes, the commenter was correct. Apparently the FOP president sent out an email to their membership last week giving the details of the DROP and said the mayor has already said he’d sign it (they don’t need council approval). If this happens, every other union member in the city should immediately stop working. There must be some other deal in place such as zero percent raises in the upcoming contract because why else would a mayor give a union ANYTHING for free when they are in a contract negotiation year??!!!
My question is when did our fine mayor perculate the finger out his ass while riding his peewee bike and it is now back on the statue?
Unrelated, but did anyone see the debate last night between Tiburcio and Smith to fill Siegel's empty seat? The Democrat was so bad even the Democrats are embarrassed and in a panic. Apparently they are considering a write in Ce-Ce campaign.
I watched. That's what happens when you choose a candidate that wasn't looking for the job.
I also watched and it was embarrassing and painful. Even Mayor Matt found a taxpayer funded trip to Los Angeles so he had an excuse to not be there. Sadly, this was his pick to fill the Siegel vacancy….of course, after Julian had to drop out.
Cece is better spoken but not electable beyond council. She has proven that she lacks ability to make smart decisions and we don’t need more of that in PA State government and definitely not another representing the Lehigh Valley. The Republican seems to be the best candidate and that’s just the lesser of three evils.
Kinda like when Tuerk was re-elected. A crooked mayor against an out of touch past his prime running mate. Won by default with historically low turnout and low voter interest.
Is it true that Tiburcio is Cynthia Mota’s cousin? What is up with the Lehigh Valley and its family business style politics?
SEIU got a great contract with more money. Matt Tuerk cares about all employees. Just Fire and Police a little more. Especially Fire
They are not traveling to Allentown.
I believe Cynthia is Ana's aunt.
Tiburcio is a very nice person who really cares, but as Smith pointed out she didn’t answer any questions. She didn’t seem prepared or knowledgeable about anything. And don’t forget Tuerk posted a happy birthday post for her last year on his instagram stories, his “good friend” I think he said.
10:12 hey, I'm no Ce-Ce fan! I hope she gets elected to house just to get her out of Allentown. She will do far less harm there being just one of two hundred.
Yea because a snow storm was coming and if they were to strike he would have been screwed. Thats the only reason and they had to fight like hell to get it. He doesnt give a shit about anyone but himself
You can tell in the debate that Ms. Tiburcio is a very nice person. That came across clearly during the debate. Unfortunately, we have a devious, corrupt, and retaliatory mayor who likes to bully and buy his way to a win. Ms. Tiburcio would need to stand up to him and his corruption and stand 10 toes down against his bullshit.
Its very important that the Allentown tax payers send Tuerk to sunny LA for a holiday (AKA Conference of Mayors Winter Leadership Meeting). He's only going show people in LA even a privileged older white male from Pennsylvania can be cool in LaLa Land. Besides he's only on this trip to learn how to better provide services to City residents. It's actually a bargain for the tax payers.
The Bronx Zoo is offering a name a cockroach after someone this Valentine’s Day. Follow the link below to name a roach after Matt Tuerk or your (least) favorite council member.
https://bronxzoo.com/roach
All of the names I tried are taken.
Even roaches don't want a Matt Tuerk among them.
