Fire in the 1st Ward

As we saw or am seeing tonight a major fire is occuring in the 300blk of N. FRONT ST. and will probably burn through the night. My hope and prayers are with the residents in the area.

This is a catastrophic event with multiple houses on fire as well as a block long building.

Posts of this were all over social media. I saw the Police Chief gave an update on the fire along with the advice to leave out your back door.

My biggest question is, where is our Mayor? Where are you Matt? Why does it seem everytime the city has a pressing issue you are not here.

A city employee source told me you are out of the country again at some mayors meeting."thanks Frank." Who is running the city? Frank? Frank claims the mayor is always running the city thanks to modern technology and data centers that allow him to be reached at all times.

Shouldn't he have given a statement by now? Address the city damnit.

Added 0850am

Showing us the photos of neighboring fire trucks that gave the city coverage isnt a news address. That is pathetic.

Putting out an emergency alert post on the city facebook 3 hours after the fire has been contained and basically out is pathetic as well.

The words "Do Better" aren't in your vocab I see.  Where is the communications director?  They suck as well.

Cynthia Mota and even Eddie Aviles gave advice and showed compassion to those affected.

Show your face Mayor.  We know how you love to see yourself.  You can't possibly be around and miss your chance to get on 6abc and every other news station.

Prayers for the residents in the area. I am watching it unfold on channel 6 livestream and it is just horrible.
Give mayor Tuerk a moment. He is probably at the site helping. .

Don’t worry aboutTuerk. He is apparently out of country, but our future Mayor of Allentown Cynthia Mota is there offering comfort to those who are affected and displaced.

Thank you Vice President Mota! 💗

How could he possibly be helping? Wearing a reflective jacket and a hardhat asking kids to call him if they see a crime. He should be addressing the city.

I heard that he’s in africa for 2 weeks for a united nations conference

Much like the Los Angeles mayor was half a world away when her city burned, it would appear that our Mayor was also far, far away for this fire.

It’s amazing that progressive, liberal, socialist (or whatever label they choose) elected officials across the country run for office because they “care about the people”, yet always seem to be doing anything but their jobs when people actually need them. It’s almost as if the only people they really care about are themselves, along with anyone they can use for a photo op.

Being mayor is a full time job, and you need to be there IN PERSON. If Matt can’t handle that or doesn’t want to do that anymore, he should do us all a favor and resign.

Allentown needs to wake up and change its voting habits, but I’m not holding my breath.

I’m assuming that this is sarcasm, but if Mota or anyone else on Council gave a rat’s ass they would be introducing legislation limiting the Mayor’s vacation and conference time out of the city. They would also reduce his travel budget to ZERO.

The mayors actions are an embarrassing fleecing of city taxpayers, and all of council is complicit.

MOROCCO?!?! This guy is blatantly stealing from the taxpayers and someone needs to hold his ass accountable!! This is disgusting to hear that he is on another exotic trip and people are watching his dumbass spend more and more. At this point Council better act. A vote of no confidence. Impeach him. Strip him of power. Stop the madness. We taxpayers pay for his agenda and we already know he is going to significantly raise taxes this year . The entire city hall should be fired and council President Naapoli should be removed for giving the mayor the green light and defending him.
I am DISGUSTED by all of this.

If only Promise Neighborhoods had been in the neighborhood over the weekend wearing orange t-shirts saying “End Fire Violence”, this fire could have been prevented!

Maybe City Hall will give them another grant to get the word out.

Matt Tuerk never cared about the people. He has carefully crafted his public persona to be opposite of who he really is inside. He is an evil fraud. I went to school with his daughter. If you wanna understand MattTuerk, sit down with her for 60 seconds.

Complicit? Absolutely. Much like Controller Glazier they are blind, deaf, and. dumb. They should all be removed

I heard Kistler and Kane are at the fire scene measuring the lot for a hyper data center.

The fire seems very suspicious. That building stood there for years. It will be interesting to see how the investigation unfolds and follow the aftermath.

I hope it is not the case but we live in a corrupt city with corrupt land developers and owners that city leaders seem to bow to time after time.

Looking more and more like Tuerk has become a Lame Dick mayor!

Does the city have an Emergency Management Coordinator? The city website has an EMC contact and they have yet to respond to inquiries. Why are they silent? This is their job. The city didn’t even acknowledger the fire until midnight on social media, where was the highly compensated Comms Director? The community has and continues to rely on information by word of mouth, Chief Roca, Executive Siegel, Council and non-profit organizations. Meanwhile our leaders are silent. Oh wait, Tuerk did promot the pictures on the AFD website of the fire earlier.

The administration keeps showing their incompetence. Even Verizon Frank, who loves to write college dissertations on this site, has been silent. There is a cleanup needed in Allentown starting at the top. I am sure they have a perfect explanation for the lack of communication. Today is double star day at Starbucks so maybe they are busy?

Always has been

Isn't it funny how politicians can find ways to take multiple trips at great cost to get away from their jobs, while the people who elected them are lucky if they can take a single, week-long vacation away from the paradise those elected officials have created?

the city never hired another EMC after lee laubach retired.

No, he is just a dick

That is not true. The job is was absorbed by the newly created 2nd Deputy Fire Chief. It was a move to get a second deputy.

See here: https://allentownpa.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=13176428&GUID=307C8E13-A327-4DAC-B1F8-BC6173D24CA8

“*The Emergency Management Coordinator position is being deleted and will be replaced with
the Deputy Fire Chief who will fulfill both roles as well as other administrative responsibilities
necessary to ensure efficient operation of a large-scale Fire Department.“

Just like the indicted one and his hoods above him, turek made a request to his many supporters that that site was needed for the comming of the data center.

Your implying that Hermano Tuérk solicited an arson, this is seriously defamatory and repugnant Matteo was broken with sadness by this tragedy
